About the Author
David Criswell has a Ph.D. from Tyndale Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and a M.Div. from Criswell College. He has written on issues in science, religion, and history ranging from anthropology to medical ethics to the Holy Roman Empire. He is a member of Tim LaHaye's Pre-Trib Research Center.

Fair and Balanced

The above reviewer betrays his own biases with some of his remarks. For one thing, Pre-Tribulationism is a minor aspect of the book. It has over 1350 footnotes, so simply claiming that the quotes from the Church Fathers are lies is not a response. You don't have to agree with the authors conclusions, but the emotional reaction against "reformational" theology is not a fair and balanced reaction. The book is well documented, although it does contain many errors which a good publisher would have caught.
It should be noted that the book was written as a dissertation, so it is geared toward an educated evangelical Christian audience, which is one reason that the above critic may not have received the book well. Overall, it is an interesting, but heavy, reading. I give it three or four stars.

Could benefit from recent scholarship and more

Reads great--I enjoyed it much like the DaVinci Code, but with a great deal of informed skepticism.
Plus it needs to be proofread for textual errors. Page 206 refers to a "Nazarite Sect" and I think it was supposed to say "Nazarene." There are other problems like that.
